Sodexo Prestige, a leading catering and events company is celebrating after securing a £1.5m contract with Newcastle City Library.

Sodexo Prestige, which already runs the conference and banqueting facilities at Newcastle United Football Club and at venues operated by Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums in the region, has been running the café at the library on a temporary contract since August 2011.

Now, following a competitive tendering process, the company has signed a three-year contract with Newcastle City Libraries to take over the running of the ground floor site on a permanent basis.

Colin Perkins, regional director for Sodexo Prestige, said: “We are very pleased to have secured this contract. Newcastle City Library has always been an outstanding venue and its massive refurbishment has made it one of the city’s premier sites.

“We have a proven track record in providing catering for a number of high-profile and iconic venues in the North East and are proud to add the City Library to our portfolio.”

David Fay, City Libraries’ Manager, said: "We are delighted that the café at the Newcastle City Library will be run by Sodexo Prestige.

“They have been running it on a temporary basis for some time and we have been very happy with the level of service and hospitality provided. We look forward to even bigger and better things in the future".

Along with the Newcastle United ground, Sodexo Prestige handles conferences and banqueting at the city’s Laing Art Gallery, Discovery Museum and Great North Museum: Hancock.
