Sodexo, a leading provider of on-site service solutions, is proud to announce that its client, Birmingham Children's Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (BCH), has won i-FM.net's Technology in FM award for its interactive electronic patient meal ordering system, Maple.

The award was presented at the annual Workplace Futures conference, held in London on Tuesday 12 February. The Technology in FM Awards recognise outstanding practice in securing the tangible and enduring business benefits to be gained from new information and communication technologies applied in the facilities management sector.

The hospital's new interactive and visually appealing Maple system, the first of its kind to be used within the NHS in the UK and developed by local software developer, Ambinet won the communications/customer service category.

BCH worked closely with the hospital's caterer, Sodexo and Ambinet to develop the new system which puts the patient at the heart of the process.

Louise Kiely, Associate Director of Facilities at the hospital, said: “Children and young people are at the heart of all that we do. Maple helps us make meal ordering appealing, fun, informative and efficient, using mobile touch screen technology which we know our children and young people love. We're delighted to receive this award alongside our partners, and to be the first in the NHS to successfully use this kind of technology to further improve patient care.”
