Darren Thompson, from Maidstone in Kent, is celebrating having topped the Contract Catering Chef category at the 20th anniversary Craft Guild of Chefs Awards.

Darren, who works for Sodexo, a leading FM services provider, as an executive chef globally, but predominately in the UK and USA, pipped his competition to the post, bringing home the esteemed award after seeing off a record number of entries.

Darren said: “I am over the moon to have won. The awards are a fantastic way to pay tribute to chefs from across the industry and being in the same room as so many of my chef idols, was a wonderful experience.”

Now in their 20th year, the Craft Guild of Chefs Awards have become the chefs’ “Oscars” and the coveted accolades recognise and reward the leading talent working in kitchens all across the industry. This year there were 16 awards in total, 14 open to nominations, and two in the hands of a team of Craft Guild member judges, which includes the Special Award, which is presented to the person who has above all others, made an enormous contribution to the industry.

Commenting on Darren’s win, David Mulcahy, craft & food development director, Sodexo, said: “I am delighted that Darren was successful in winning the Contract Catering Chef Award for 2013. Nominations for this award were of a very high standard and to win at this level is a testament to Darren’s commitment and skills.

“The Craft Guild of Chefs Awards is the only event dedicated to the recognition of chefs who demonstrate excellence at the highest level, from across all sectors of the industry.”
