A Sodexo employee from China travelled to the UK to receive the Best Candidate award for achieving the highest score of some 35,000 students in the International General Certificate in Occupational Safety & Health at NEBOSH’s annual graduation and awards ceremony held at Warwick University on 27 June.

John Lin, HSE Compliance Manager for Sodexo China has worked for the company since 2014.  His responsibilities include ensuring health and safety compliance across Sodexo’s corporate, education, healthcare and energy & resources business in southern China.  This includes support and monitoring of HSE for business development, mobilisation of new sites, operational support and closing of sites.

John studied for the qualification through training provider Soteria Management Consulting (Soteria HSE Solutions) in Shanghai throughout 2015. Commenting on receiving the award John said: “As part of my continued professional development, Sodexo sponsored me to study for this qualification. The course strengthened my understanding of the value of areas such as risk assessment; HS inspection & audit; development of HS processes and management systems and training. It also gave me a great opportunity to gain insight into international best practice, to network with my peers and experts in HSE and which of course will benefit me in terms of career improvement and advancement.”

During his visit to the UK, John was able to meet with HSE colleagues and share best practice from their respective countries as well as the opportunity to visit a number of Sodexo’s UK client sites. Sheena Eyre, health and safety director for Sodexo Asia Pacific and UK and Ireland environment, health and safety director, Chris Dark joined John at the official graduation and awards ceremony.
