The 2015 SAP FIRST LEGO League Irish Championship final swung into action on Saturday 23rd January 2015 in Galway as 300 students from schools in 10 counties met to decide this year’s champions.

All the bright young things were fuelled for battle on the day courtesy of Sodexo Ireland, which looks after the on-site catering for SAP in Galway and Dublin.

Sodexo supplied healthy energy inducing packed lunches for all the participants, ensuring lasting energy and focus until the last robot fell!

Yvonne Butler, business manager for Sodexo at SAP Galway, also presented a prize to the well-deserved winner of the Volunteer of the Year Award.

The First Lego League is a global science and technology competition for students that aims to encourage an interest in real world issues and develop key skills crucial for their future careers.

The students work together as a team and explore a given scientific topic and plan, program and test an autonomous robot to solve several missions.

Seven young students from the Rainbow Bricks team in Letterfrack National School in Donegal scooped the title of SAP FIRST LEGO League Champions 2015.

They will now represent Ireland at one of the international competitions abroad during the summer.

Bernard Kirk, director of The Galway Education Centre, which runs the competition in Ireland, said, “The high levels of hard work, dedication and creativity displayed among students and teachers from all over the country on this day is increasingly impressive. We want to express our sincere thanks to Sodexo on behalf of all the young people, teachers, parents, mentors and volunteers who really appreciated the lunches!”

Sodexo Ireland is one of the country’s leading food and facilities management providers and employs around 1,800 people in 200 site locations nationwide.
