A managing director from Sodexo, a leading FM services provider, won a top prize at the Women 1st Shine Awards held last night in London.

Margot Slattery, MD for Sodexo Ireland, picked up the Woman of the Year award and was one of 23 inductees into the Women 1st Top 100 Club at the ceremony at the Marriott Hotel, Grovesnor Square, hosted by former England Rugby World Cup winner Matt Dawson MBE.

In addition to her busy ‘day job’ managing 1,800 people, Margot plays an important role in promoting diversity and inclusion both inside and outside Sodexo. She was the founding chair of Women Work, Sodexo’s first employee network which she worked tirelessly to set up, and is the representative for Ireland on Sodexo’s Diversity and Inclusion Council.

Margot was also instrumental in signing up Sodexo to Ireland’s first Diversity Charter in October last year alongside 10 other founding Irish organisations.

The Women 1st Shine Awards are the only awards that celebrate the achievements of women working in hospitality, passenger transport, travel and tourism, and the dedication of the mentors and employers that go the extra mile to support the career development of women in these industries.

The Women 1st Top 100 Club is a network of the most influential women in hospitality, passenger transport, travel and tourism, who act as ambassadors and role models for the female leaders of tomorrow.

Katy Maddison, interim commercial and finance director for Sodexo Cyprus, was short listed for the Stepping Up award in recognition of her role in her management of Sodexo Defence’s finances during the ongoing banking sector crisis in the region.

Diversity and inclusion is one of Sodexo’s ethical principles embedded in its sustainability strategy to 2020, the Better Tomorrow Plan, which sets out three pillars and 14 commitments for the whole of Sodexo Group across 80 countries and around 34,000 sites.

Margot Slattery said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to receive this recognition and I’m delighted for Sodexo. I’m proud of the efforts of the Diversity and Inclusion team and the Diversity and Inclusion Council and I’m very pleased to have been a member of the Council since its inception and be involved in driving the agenda forward.”
