Sodexo NI abseils down Ireland’s tallest building for charity

Twelve employees from Sodexo Northern Ireland abseiled down the Obel Tower, Ireland’s tallest building, to raise over £2,000 for charity.

The team completed the challenge to raise funds for the NI Hospice, who provides specialist care to children, young people and adults with life-limiting illness.

The building, situated in Belfast, is the tallest in the whole of Ireland, standing at 279 foot (85 metres).

Julie-Ann Agnew, Sodexo Northern Ireland’s charity champion organised the event which the participants completed within a few minutes.

Collectively, the group agreed the challenge was “scary, exciting but very rewarding”. One team member said: “it was a real adrenaline rush and an exhilarating life experience and I would recommend it to anyone, it’s one for the ‘bucket list’”.

Group manager Nicola Thompson and business development manager Anne Magill both said that the best part for them was safely reaching terra firma. Nicola said: “It was the most beautiful sight ever and I never thought I would say that about gravel”.

Sodexo is one of Northern Ireland’s largest food and facilities management providers, managing on-site restaurants and a range of support services for clients in business, industry, education and healthcare. It employs approximately 500 people in 60 locations.
