Sodexo is a proud sponsor of the Springboard FutureChef competition, which this week saw twelve aspiring young chefs gather at Westminster Kingsway College, London to compete in the 2013 final.

Open to all chefs between the ages of 12 and 16, this year’s event attracted 8,768 competitors, all competing to not only receive the accolade but an exclusive two-day visit to one of the most prestigious events on the calendar, Royal Ascot.

The 2013 FutureChef title went to 14 year old Hayley Cancea from The Deepings School in Peterborough.

Hayley wowed the judges with her Mediterranean-style roulade of pork, with a sage and onion beignet and a wild mushroom and spinach pithivier, followed by a dark chocolate bavarois, raspberry sorbet and pistachios.

The two-day Royal Ascot prize will see Hayley spend a day behind the scenes where she will not only see first hand a professional kitchen at work but will have the chance to work alongside the Sodexo team in preparing and serving guests. Then after a night in a top hotel, Hayley and her family will again visit Royal Ascot, but this time as a hospitality guest of Sodexo.

Of the event, David Mulcahy, Sodexo’s craft and food development director and chairman of the FutureChef judges said: "Sodexo is delighted to sponsor FutureChef, and each year we are astonished and delighted at the high level of skills from chefs so young. We look forward to welcoming Hayley to Ascot this summer.”

Sodexo is a strong supporter of Springboard and recently hosted a fundraising evening at the Churchill War Rooms in London in honour of the charity. The evening was attended by life patron Michel Roux Jr., and raised £22,000 for the charity.situation arose.
